Famous American Research Report
By Faiza

My famous American topic is Helen Keller. Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, June 27, 1880.

When Helen was one and a half years old she had a brain fever. The illness left Helen blind and deaf. Helen was often angry. She kicked, screamed, cried, and was mischievous.

Dr. Bell helped the Kellers to find a teacher for Helen. She was Anne Sullivan

In 1900 Helen went to Radcliffe college. She wrote The Story of My Life. She graduated with honors in 1904. Helen wrote many books and articles about her life, her teacher, and how she learned.

Helen Keller couldn’t see or hear but for more than eighty years she had always been busy. She read and wrote books. She learned how to swim and even how to ride a bicycle. But most of all Helen brought hope to millions of handicapped people. The first biographies about Helen appeared before she was ten years old. Important people wanted to meet Helen. People, universities and governments all over the world gave Helen awards.

Helen Keller died in 1968, Helen worked all her life to help people. She worked for many years for the American Foundation for the Blind. During the Second World War, Helen visited injured soldiers in hospitals. Many of them had been blinded or had lost their hearing in the fighting. Helen brought them hope they would try to lead useful lives despite their handicaps, just like her.
