Orcas, commonly known as the killer whale, is a toothed whale, the largest member of the dolphin family.

Description
There are two kinds of names for killer whales: orcas or killer whales. They have rubbery skin. They have large brains and are very smart. Killer whales are black and have white patches. Killer whales are only twenty feet long. They have long tails. Sometimes you will see orcas playing with dolphins.

Habitat
The killer whale lives in coastal and deep ocean waters. Many orcas move to cooler ocean waters in the summer. These orcas return to warmer ocean waters in the winter. Most are found in freezing cold water. A family of killer whales is called a pod. Killer whales travel in pods.

Life Cycle
When the killer whale calf is born it measures from six and a half feet. It spends nearly two years of drinking its mother’s milk. In the first few years of its life, the calf learns how to catch food. Male killer whales live about fifty to sixty years. By the time it is ten years old, the whale is not a calf but a huge adult.
Food and Enemies
Killer whales are speedy hunters. For food they eat penguins and sharks, sea lions and small whales. Killer whales like to eat other kinds of whales. Sharks eat baby killer whales. Killer whales don’t harm people or eat them.
