Dear DPS Families,
We are truly excited to kick off the 2025-2026 School year alongside our incredible school leaders, families and partners! At Denver Public Schools, we are committed to providing all students with access to healthy, nourishing meals that support their learning and development. Many of you are probably aware that as part of our comprehensive school meals program, we also offer Ă la carte items for purchase in our school cafeterias. We are reaching out to share more details and to ask for your partnership and support.
What Are À La Carte Sales?
À la carte items are individually priced food and beverage items that students can purchase in addition to a school meal. These may include healthy snacks, beverages, or entrées that meet federal Smart Snacks standards and align with our district’s wellness policy. We have been offering these healthy options for over 30 years!
Why are Ă la carte Sales offered?
â—Ź All Ă la carte offerings are nutritionally approved and portion-controlled.
● À la carte sales complement menu variety.
â—Ź In an unpredictable budget and revenue environment, a la carte sales support the financial sustainability of the school nutrition program.
â—Ź Students are still encouraged to participate in the school breakfast and lunch program, which offers the most balanced and cost-effective options.
â—Ź DPS works closely with the Colorado Department of Education School Nutrition Unit to ensure all programs meet or exceed required standards.
â—Ź Students can purchase these items using cash, check, or funds on their meal account.
For Families:
We encourage you to talk with your student about their food choices and purchasing habits. If you would like to monitor or limit à la carte purchases, please contact your school’s cafeteria manager or visit our online meal account system at https://www.myschoolbucks.com
We remain dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and health-focused environment for all students. Thank you for your continued support of student wellness and healthy eating.
Warm regards,
Trena A. Marsal
